About the foundation
Furget Me Not
A community of animal-lovers supporting individual rescuers to provide shelter, spay/neuter programs, and rehoming, for the soi dogs of Thailand.
When Furget-Me-Not Sanctuary Founder Soot Liang Woo moved to Thailand 17 years ago, she was deeply moved by the incredible number of soi dogs (Thai street dogs) around. Unable to simply ignore this issue, Soot began to catch dogs one-by-one, arranging and self-funding spaying and neutering operations. For some dogs, life back on the streets was not an option due to permanent disability, safety concerns or lack of food source. So, Soot opened her home to them; re-homing (where possible), rehabilitating, and offering the care and attention many so desperately needed. In the past years, with the help of great friends she has been able to find loving families for hundreds of Thai dogs and cats. She also volunteers her time daily to trap, spay, and release, reaching over 93,000 dogs and cats in Thailand over the last 4 years. She has been very blessed to have Soi Dog Foundation sponsor the cost of spay surgery.
Most of Soot’s work is self-funded, supported by sporadic donations from lovely friends across the world. Costs are incurred for food, puppy milk formula, medicine, boarding of certain dogs before release, cages, transporting of dogs, detick treatment, mange treatment, TVT treatment, and more. Yet despite all her efforts, and those of other privately-funded animal welfare organizations in Thailand, the sad plight of soi dogs persists. Soot’s home is no longer able to accommodate the ever-growing number of needy animals. So, she has invested her own money to purchase a large piece of land in Kanchanaburi; a beautiful place where rescued dogs that are not suitable to be rehomed can live in safe and sanitary conditions. Here, they can enjoy wide open, green spaces where they will be well-fed and cared for.
